CITB approved courses, who should attend?
CITB Health & Safety Awareness (one-day)This course is aimed at individual’s who are about to work, or have been working in the industry but have no formal or certificated evidence of health and safety awareness or competence, in other words this course has been designed for all persons routinely entering and working on construction sites. The course provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, helping the individual to understand potential hazards they may face on site, and identifying the individual’s responsibility for looking after themselves and others. This course is an essential foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation card and a natural progression from this course would be to attend the Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme or a Supervisor Specialist Skills course. The Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme (two-day)This course is aimed at first line managers, foreman, gangers, team leaders, supervisors and those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. It provides an introduction to health, and safety, welfare and environmental issues, and legal responsibilities relevant to their work. The course gives attendees valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site. This course prepares individuals for the SMSTS and/or the Supervisor Specialist Skills course. Supervisor Specialist Skills Course (three-day)Different sectors present different health and safety issues, so at some point in an operative’s career they will need to refine their knowledge within their specialist area. This three-day course is aimed at first line managers, supervisors, foreman and those who have or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities within the shop-fitting and interior contracting industry. The course covers all relevant legislation and other issues that affect safe working in the shop-fitting and interior contracting industry. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of necessary control measures and communication of health and safety, welfare and environmental issues. A natural progression from this course would be to attend the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS). Site Management Safety Training Scheme Course (five-day)This course is designed for site managers, agents and persons who are responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering a workforce. The course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction, and civil engineering industries. The course focuses on the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a safe practice in the workplace. Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher Course (two-day)SMSTS certificate holders will need to renew their certificate and the refresher course aims to bring individuals health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of legislation changes and their impact in the workplace. The course includes a wide range of topics many building on the previous five-day course programme as well as introducing new subjects. |
